Love Came Down at Christmas

I think every year about this time I make a promise to remember the true meaning of Christmas. I try. I try so hard not to get wrapped up it the pressure to find the perfect gift, mail the cards in time, and avoid the stress. This year is no different, but I have a secret weapon for the season – Love Came Down at Christmas devotional book, by MariLee Parrish.

Inspired by the poem “Love Came Down At Christmas” by Christina Rossetti, MariLee has put together an amazing collection of devotions to help focus on the real meaning of Christmas.

“Dear friends, let us continue to love

One another, for love comes from God

Anyone who loves is a child of God and

Knows God. But anyone who does not

Love does not know God, for God is love.”

1 JOHN 4:7-8 NLT

(pg. 42)

With devotions and inspiring thoughts throughout, the words give amazing perspective. That baby in the manger, born to save us all, is the most precious gift of all. It’s so very easy to lose sight of the reason for the season, but I’m thankful that this book will be at my side for this season and Christmases to come.

“For unto us a Child is born,

Unto us a Son is given,

And the government

Shall be upon His shoulder;

And his name shall be called

Wonderful, Counselor,

The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father,

The Prince of Peace.”

  1. I show love at Christmas by teaching my children the true reason we celebrate. We read the story of Jesus’ birth repeatedly, they are still quite young so I want it to sink in fully. Each year we add traditions to show that it’s not just about getting but that giving can be just as exciting.
